Are you using python-pypm for MIDI? I see that it is recommended in debian, but it should actually be required, because it is much more stable than the ctypes binding (which Frescobaldi is probably using now on your system)

i installed the python-pypm on my debian-sid. now the preferences in frescobaldi shows the "port 0" of midi. so i can connect the qsampler via jack to frescobaldi. but: timidity is still missing.

i think the dependencies are not clear enough at this moment of development. hm. more suggestions?

timidity is not required, but if you don't have a hardware MIDI device, you should install timidity++ or fluidsynth, which both can be setup as a MIDI software device. E.q. with the QSynth program you can easily run Fluidsynth. It is also possible to start timidity or fluidsynth as a daemon at boot time.

well, thanks again. i know of hardware MIDI, timidity and fluidsynth. works all fine till the last days. i think the failure is in my /etc/group ... i have deleted "timidity" from my audio-group accidentally ... silly, stupid thing. tommorrow i try to fix and see how stable frescobaldi will work on my debian-sid with python-pypm and if timidity will be back in the MIDI-preferences with an editied /etc/group.

greetings!

python-pypm will be required in upcoming debian releases. I'll probably disable the ctypes binding for now.

i added my user and root to the group "timidity" and now frescobaldi shows timidity as midi-player. in the goup "audio" timidity was in, i added to audio "root". i don´t know how this could happen - silly thing ... shit happens. but now it works and i´m happy!
