I thought the whole point of this lib was to build native modules?

Yes, there's some more work to be done on it. After releasing it, we realized we were working under some false presumptions.
It's 3rd in the pipeline right now behind 2 other tools that will make this functionality easier to implement. Sorry for the wild goose chase. I'll change the README to reflect that this is currently not working as advertised.
