So I can better understand your use case and work on prioritizing your request if you are able, can you please provide me with more details on your workflow and project structure?

My specific use case is that I'm building a GUI for the cli. In certain scenarios, like pushing and pulling the code, I have to change the working directory of my application to run commands for the user, and then remember to change the directory back, as well as handle any errors that could happen.

Having a flag like sfdx force:source:push --sourcedir /path/to/source would help as then I won't need to worry about more errors as the cli would format them to be the same as all the others it can spit out and how changing the working directory will effect my application.

You can do this now by using source:deploy and specifying the project directory you want to deploy, optionally, with --tracksource to get push-like tracking.
