I think this can marked as done with #136 which uses org.gnome.SessionManager for keep.running method. That is "some other method" which unfortunately only supports GNOME. Most probably there will be no single method which would be supported in all Linux operating systems. Will try to add support to all desktop environments one by one. Each desktop environment should be handled in their own ticket.
The org.gnome.SessionManager based keep.running() method will be added in 0.8.0. In the same release, the faulty org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver based keep.running() will be removed.
