It should show which branch requires pushing in parenthesis behind "Needs push" (you may need to upgrade to the latest version of mgitstatus). Mgitstatus checks all branches, not just the one you've currently got checked out.

I wonder if git review is what may be breaking it. I'll close this issue for now till I can gather more details.
