Yes, this is tricky and not optimal. But what is the suggested fix? Add a new method to access original message?
Location information is useful as well, and most logging code I am familiar with uses 'getMessage()' to get text to display.

I agree that getMessage() should include all of the object's information. I think an additional accessor method would be the cleanest way to do things.

That was trivially simple; added JsonProcessingException.getOriginalMessage(), will be part of 2.1.
