The quick fix based on https://stackoverflow.com/questions/67719223/javadoc-gradle-task-with-androidx-library:
task androidJavadocs(type: Javadoc) {
source = android.sourceSets.main.java.srcDirs
classpath += project.files(android.getBootClasspath().join(File.pathSeparator))
-
+ classpath += files(android.libraryVariants.collect { variant ->
+ variant.getJavaCompileProvider().get().classpath.files
+ })
if (JavaVersion.current().isJava8Compatible()) {
allprojects {
tasks.withType(Javadoc) {
However, you should be able to use the new Maven publish library for Android apps now instead of the gradle/gradle-mvn-push.gradle
task:
https://developer.android.com/studio/publish-library/upload-library
How to figure out in the future: if you add --debug
it looks like the classpath is messed up for the Javadoc task. It needs those imports in its classpath to find the AndroidX dependencies:
Command line issued: [/Users/rogerh/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/azul-11-ARM64/zulu-11.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/javadoc, @/Users/rogerh/Development/rx-preferences/rx-preferences/build/tmp/androidJavadocs/javadoc.options]
Generated Javadoc options file has following contents:
------
-Xdoclint:none '-quiet'
-classpath '/Users/rogerh/Library/Android/sdk/platforms/android-28/android.jar'
-d '/Users/rogerh/Development/rx-preferences/rx-preferences/build/docs/javadoc'
-doctitle 'rx-preferences 2.0.2-SNAPSHOT API'
-quiet
-windowtitle 'rx-preferences 2.0.2-SNAPSHOT API'
from rx-preferences.
This fixed the issue. Thank you @rogerhu
