Yes, it is the hardware! The laptop internal mic is supplying data per 125ms, the white USB sound card with a small wire and the black short one are at 20 ms. Still higher than my desired 1 ms :), but already quite bearable.

The data supply delay is also dependent on the chosen audio format. For the laptop internal mic 8K one byte brings it back to about 25 ms. So maybe a lower quality for the USB sound cards can cut a little more off the delay. But on the other hand, we don't support difference in live input format and output format (yet) ...

TODO: configure everything so no live data should be dropped and test if it actually works properly.

YES! There is a very simple way to improve a lot on this! Just provide a buffer size of 1 to the line.open() and the underlying system will choose the lowest possible buffer size and the chunk size shrinks accordingly to about 1-2 ms! Even for the internal laptop mic this works great and results in almost perfect sync. The server side is now by for the biggest bottleneck.
