Config option to create device nodes? about eudev HOT 2 CLOSED

There is, we can backtrack the stuff from 175 but the issue is broader in that the entire linux community is heading towards the devtmpfs solution and eudev doesn't live in isolation. It is possible that future kernel changes to /sys will break eudev or lead to design dead ends where we may not have a workable solution moving forward or create heavy maintenance burdons. eudev is a light fork of systemd in that is central goal is to isolate udev while still following upstream closely. It aims to remain neutral wrt boot intialization. A secondary goal is to make sure it works on uclibc and musl and adheres standards beyond pure GNU.

We do not have the clout of Pottering or Kroah-Hartman to influence were the kernel will go. I don't have a crystal ball that the above will happen, but there is presidence. Eg. consider /proc/net/ip_conntrack which was recently dropped from the kernel.

This isn't really a bug, but we can leave it open for discussion in forum like fashion.
