It was found in IRC that /lib/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules in udev-171 contains KERNEL=="null|zero|full|random|urandom", MODE="0666" which was removed from later versions. It seems that older kernels depend on these rules while newer ones set the correct permissions automatically. This needs some more scrutiny to figure out precisely which kernel made this change for the commit message. Afterward, we could reintroduce this rule.

ryao, it can't hurt if we simply re-add the rule which sets MODE=0666. If older kernels need this and it doesn't make a difference for newer kernels, then we should add it for backwards compat.

This regression was caused by 378f2e0. We could just do a partial revert of that commit.
