Thanks, I also think the option 3 is a good solution. If you want to make a pull request, I'll be happy to merge it in, or I can do it for next release.
It is not possible to put the python in fixed directory since we want to version the packages to allow people to use older versions so that they have a potential fallback for regressions. It is unfortunate that it makes this part of the code a bit more complex, but I think still maintainable.
