I encountered a similar issue and went down a rabbit hole. The issue here is that the character 'º' is described in unicode as MASCULINE ORDINAL INDICATOR. This project detects alphabet by returning the first word of the character's name, which is often the script name but not always.

So in your case,

>>> ad.detect_alphabet(text)
{'MASCULINE', 'LATIN'}

I have searched for alternatives using metadata from unicode and the closest I could find was https://pypi.org/project/uniscripts/ which unfortunately has not been updated in several years.

I forked, updated and reached out to the author to push a new version, but meanwhile you can do:

pip install git+https://github.com/gaspardpetit/uniscripts.git

and then

>>> uniscripts.get_scripts(text)
{'Common', 'Latin'}
