ActionPages can now have locations saved to them in my branch https://github.com/TheNotary/action-center-platform/tree/adding-regionality-to-actions.

I had a chat with parker, I guess ~10 days ago, but my notes are really bad... Now that I have the ability to mark issues as, say, 'United States', I'll need to get input as to what implication this will have (I think we mentioned emailing specific EFF members based on what address they filled out with us?) I'll probably ping him tomorrow and document more specifics to this feature here.

Edit: Props to Vivian for helping me wade through the original tree-view logic!

If showing up at act.eff.org and coming from say Germany, it would show you a more personalized, relevant actions for you.

How? Following are candidates:

  • CNN style "US" vs. "World" differentiation... perhaps a dropdown

  • IP Block Geolocating

  • Client-side geolocating

  • Modal Prompting upon reaching a page marked with 'related to' entries

  • Displaying in right side-bar something like

Is there a better page for you?

    • Stay here for this US action page
    • Click here for this international action page

Mobile app could allow you to set what actions you want visible, by address.*

(this is a maybe).

An alternative way to treat this is by showing a 'map' on the screen where the user can opt to indicate where they are, or rather, when

Upon render, ActionPages can have a state of relevant? and if the page isn't relevant to them (say they're opting for German-relevant pages) then a page with a related action that is German specific could link to this page and prompt the user 'according to you location specification, [this] page might be more appropriate to your interests."

I've heard from activism, this is low priority, but I will check in with art to see if they can bring in a mockup and then someone (I'm interested) might look into getting some javascript going to build a widget and allow us to play around with the UX and see if this is a workable path forward.
