If the handling is converted to allow for array return, or internal handling of arrays, then using the spread operator in a String.fromCodePoint would allow for direct rendering of the "character" and would apply to any range based unicode.

The emoji source json file includes flags by country name, with no flag- prefix. Perhaps detecting flag- and then using the source country would make for a simpler support, especially as code ranges are now supported with #25.

Regarding regional_indicator_a, etc., as reported in #19, a is supported directly. The flag/region codes are also supported directly, just without flag- prefix.
