I'm following this discussion because I have the same question. It has been a while since you posted it though.
Did you ever get an answer from anyone (either in this forum, or elsewhere?).
I have successfully connected the Package Explorer to the AASX Server using the REST connection, and the client is able to read a list of the AAS models from the server. However, when I add a new AAS model to the list it seems to go into a pending state and is never transferred to the server. Is there some way to push the newly added AAS model to the server?

@JoMMC and @imcardle : Thank you for your inputs. We are working on the REST API for uploading a new file to the AASX- Server from the Package Explorer. The fix will be released soon.

This issue has been fixed in the new REST API support with ASP.NET.
The new REST endpoint is : http:// <Host_Name> :5001/
Swagger documentation for these APIs can be found at : http://<Host_Name>:5001/swagger/index.html
Package explorer can be connected to Aasx-Server by: File -> AASX File Repository -> Connect HTTP/REST Repository and appending "?asp.net" to the new REST endoint as shown in the screenshot.
