I think you over-complicate the problem that why you have issues.
ad1. you see internal addressed probably because of misconfiguration.
ad2. the best way it to terminate ssl on the first front you have, and use http later on internally.
ad3. Yes, exactly we have already released beta version https://github.com/eBay/fabio/releases/tag/v1.4beta1
that should have the feature you are looking for. but still do not mix fabio for external traffic with fabio or HAproxy for internal traffic. Those supposed to be a separate / isolated instances.

Just install fabio instead of your nginx - and use defined different prefix for external traffic..

ad 1/2 It appear not to be an Error. Remote address appear on every website and it just tell you which ip you used to reach the website.

ad 3, Thanks, I will wait for the first official release of the TCP support.
I am always afraid when the technology is too young that it missed some small but important features.

@ad1regarding Remote address . I think i misunderstood you, do you expose internal domain (like .consul) to outside world ?
