I've thought about code generation to get rid of annotations processing & reflection at runtime and did some microbenchmarks. Yes, method calls via reflection are considerably slower, but that shouldn't be an issue unless you have 100s of calls a second.
EventBus implementation (and other parts that rely on annotations, reflection) in DroidParts does caching of fields, methods, etc. to ensure that everything works fast. I'd recommend to check it out.

If I recall correctly my problem was that I, at some points, initialize Views during an animation in a gallery (finger drags current View -> new View has to be instantiated). The EventBus part of the custom-View initialisation was too slow in that case so it was noticeable during the drag.

Yeah, I guess usual method callbacks would be better in that case.
