The problem is the use of this.$refs.

A true patch would be to use attributes/$emit pattern to communicate between parent and children.

$refs is available only when vue is mounted. So it's possible to do something like this :

data () {
  return {
    isMounted: false
  }
},
computed: {
  myMethodName() {
    //$refs is available only when vue is mounted
    if (!this.isMounted) {
      return;
    }
    // code here
},
mounted () {
  this.isMounted = true
}
