I always prefer to put my effort in things which are not straight forward to implement.
You can easily achieve a scatter plot by implementing a new chart extending ChartView or even tweaking LineChartView not to draw a line (from the top of my head I think you only need to comment/remove one line of code) but only the dots. By doing any of these you will get for free the rest (ChartView and animation features).
Let me know if you give it a try and need help.

I will give it a try. Any guidance on log scale?

Perhaps using both, a LineChartView where you do the math to get your log scale line and then you draw your ScatterChartView on top of it, basically overriding them. I know, doesn't look like the most efficient way but at the moment I do not support mixing diff types of charts.
