Sure, I guess the only issue is that it means that xtlang is less and less lisp-like (although obviously you don't have to use the syntactic sugar).
Do you think the main benefit is code legibility or development efficiency?

actually I was kinda hoping you'd say that :) I'd really prefer not to do it but I do think it will help code legibility and efficiency. As you say though it does start to put any end to our nice easy macro parsing :)

I think that a more useful (for me in day-to-day, at least) change would be to make the index arg optional, and default to 0
.
So (pref data)
would be equivalent to (pref data 0)
