After a little research, this actually appears to be due to the rubygems source being out of date. Rubygems shows 0.3.4, which is the last version before the userinfo was made available via version 0.3.5 (see here: https://rubygems.org/gems/omnicontacts)

Until rubygems is updated, this can be fixed by specifying the source with something like:

gem "omnicontacts", "~> 0.3.5", :git => "git://github.com/Diego81/omnicontacts.git"

There could be another issue present that @dmastylo experienced, but it seems likely that the gem was installed without specifying the version, installing 0.3.4 in the process.
