Ring Camera notifications about ring HOT 24 CLOSED

My gut says you've probably got an Apple TV that upgraded to OS 17 sometime around then and is now running the live stream all the time as this is a common issue. Ring cameras will not send notifications when they are live streaming so this blocks all notifications for dings/motion. You should be able to see this in the Homebridge log as a stream that keeps starting every 10 minutes or so.

Unfortunately, if that is the case, there's not much that can be done about it unless you can somehow get your Apple TV to stop running the stream. Some users seem to indicate that updating to 17.1 and restarting helps, but not much conclusive evidence.

However, no matter what logs from an event are going to be required as it's pretty much impossible to troubleshoot without logs of some sort.

Yes all my devices were updated to iOS 17 when released. I did run into an issue with my one camera draining constantly as it would stay on live stream all day. I contacted Ring about it and the one camera had to be replaced. I dont have anything in the logs showing constant live stream. See below

I also just hid some camera’s in hopes it would help but it didn’t…

That’s the last of my log when i ran the doorbell. The stream didn’t notify my tv.

To be clear, are you saying that you rang the doorbell and a stream started, but it wasn't your Apple TV that started that stream? What device did start the stream, I mean, if no device starts the stream then a doorbell ding wouldn't actually create a stream at all, so it appears that something received a notification and started a stream.

Sorry, i rang the door bell to test the video notification on the tv. It didn’t notify me on the Apple TV screen or show a video. It did however make the doorbell chime on my HomePod mini.

Well, possibly, I'm not sure, it's based on whether the stream started before the notification, or after. I'd suggest you enable debug logging for the plugin, it will provide more insight.

I didn’t do anything in the ring app when I started rebuilding my HomeKit yesterday.

So I went out this morning to my driveway. Where one of my HomeKit cameras are. Got a notification from ring. However nothing is logged for that time period in hoobs. Thoughts?

Is there something wrong with my HomeKit? Someone mentioned before that I might be getting conflicting info between multiple devices. I have 3 ATV 4ks and 3 hpm. My bedroom has one of those ATV with the hpm setup in stereo pair as the ATV speaker.
Would my wife having access to the home kit as a resident have any effect on these devices even tho she is not the owner? Should I sign her out of iCloud and back in on her iPhone and iPad? Would that even do anything.

Debug logging is just stored in the regular logs, yes. In the plugin settings there's an option, under "Optional Configuration" that is called "Debug Logging", check the box, save, restart Homebridge and the plugin will now log additional information in the standard homebridge log about it's activities, not complicated. For example, with debug logging enabled if I trigger my front doorbell I get something like this in the log:

In this example I can see that the event arrived to the plugin, but if there was no equivalent event in the log, but your received notifications in Ring, then I would know that the problem is that the event is not arriving. That would trigger a different set of troubleshooting steps vs the case where the plugin is receiving the event but not getting to the Apple TV.

Without having any data like that provided by the debug logs I can't really be sure where the problem lies, but I'll try to answer your questions anyway:

Almost certainly not, this plugin doesn't talk to the cameras directly, it just receives push notifications for events from the Ring servers, the same ones used by the Ring app. If it was broken, it would be broken for everyone.

I don't really know, I'm just trying to verify if the plugin is receiving the events which is why debug logs are important. If the plugin is not receiving events, then nothing will work, but if the plugin is receiving the events, which will be shown in the debug logs, then the problem is on the HomeKit/Apple side, which will be not something we can likely address here.

My interpretation of your previous log was that some device in your network did stream the video (there's a stream for exactly 30 seconds that appears to coordinate with each event). Since you have 3 ATV, that makes me think some device is doing it, but not all. Unfortunately, I have no idea how Apple deals with this and decides which device it should stream the video on, or if it will do it from multiple devices, etc. But, for now, this is just a guess, because I can't see the actual event in the logs.

Again, difficult to know, iOS 17 works fine for me, but I don't have any Apple TV devices. What I can say is that reports of issues from users with Apple TV have increased probably 10x since iOS 17 rolled out, although it seems to have calmed down somewhat with recent updates. The biggest issue that was seen was the continuous streaming which causes all sorts of problems.

Ok gotcha. I did not restart homebridge one I clicked the debug box. I only saved it and thought that was it. I will reboot the device and report back. Thanks for answering all my questions. They make sense.

I know this all seems simple but to me there was no reason for me to believe that I would have to restart the hoobs box after clicking that debug box.

Yes I did have that continuous video stream happen to my ring cameras 2 weeks after ios17 was released. I know because I only started getting issues as soon as I returned home from a work trip on 10/5. But since then it’s been all types of screwed up.

What I'm really curious about, but have no idea, if you have mulitple Apple TV devices, does the notification got all of them, or just one of them? I really don't understand how Apple deals with having multiple "hub" devices, it seems like not very well based on comments in other threads.

Good to know. I was thinking about jumping to homebridge on a raspberri pi 4 since all this started and was thinking about trying scripted as I wasn’t sure if this was a hoobs issue or an overall issue. It’s still a possibility tho.

As for the Apple TVs. Before, any tv that was on would get the notification for the cameras it was suppose to get notified from. So on my basement TVs I might have just the doorbell and the backyard. Upstairs I might get driveway and front door and bedroom side and front door. Something like that. All tho I have 6 hubs only 1 is connected (Apple TV) and the others are on standby.

I checked it a bunch the last 2 days. I’m not seeing anything useful to share.

I just ordered a raspberry pi and when I comes I’ll setup homebridge and start over again with the ring bridge for HomeKit. I am going to also run script in hopes that it helps with the camera situation. Not sure if it will make a difference but if there is a debug log on there and it’s not working then maybe I will have more info to share.
