v0.1.8 has keyboard shortcut support

Shift+trackball: +/- 3 seconds
Alt+trackball: +/- 10 seconds

(The new version isn't on Market yet, but you can download from the home page)

thanks very much for your reply!

i have the htc magic (g2) so i don't have a physical keyboard...

a couple of on screen buttons would be perfect...

thanks again!

Ok, I can probably add buttons to skip +/- 10 seconds. Another option is to
add buttons to change the
playback speed, but I'm not sure if the protocol supports this.

that would be perfect! (it would be even more perfect if you could customise
how many
seconds it would skip in a menu somewhere... :-) )

don't worry about changing the playback speed, that's not really what I'm after
at all.

thanks again!

Just throwing out some ideas. These are just humble suggestions, not demands of
any sort.

One option would be to add button << and >> (not |<< or >>|) that when pressed
once
will do the short rr/ff (say 10s) and when long pressed would do the long rr/ff
(say
1 min). For anything else, the crude seek bar combined with these new buttons
would
be sufficient.

Another option: If the trackball l/r/up/down just moves focus between the
buttons,
may be you could capture the it and make left/right act as short rr/ff and may
be
up/down as long rr/ff?

I too would be glad if the rr/ff seconds are configurable. For me 10s and 60s
would
work well.

Btw, I'm a G1 user but I still prefer not having to slide out the k/b because
having
it open thru out a movie makes it very likely to get it broken by accidentally
putting my weight on it.

Oh, btw, thanks for the awesome app. The best UI among the VLC remote apps
(except
for the missing rr/ff). Thanks a bunch.

I could maybe add the ff/rw touchscreen buttons in landscape mode only (since
there
is not enough room in portrait mode).

The latest binary on http://code.google.com/p/android-vlc-remote/ now has
touchscreen
seek buttons (+/- 10 seconds) when in landscape mode (but there isn't enough
room on
the screen in portrait). I'll post to Market once I get a couple other minor
issues
sorted out (donut permissions, new server selection UI).
