Hi Bin,
Yes, you're absolutely right - the extra 'ID' tags that are provided in the JIGSAW text file are not currently used, but are included for forward compatibility. It's my intention to hook this functionality up in the future, but I haven't got around to it yet. I've included the ID tags in the file at this stage so that the file format will not need to change in the future.

It's generally possible to identify the boundary faces / nodes after the fact - if you're happy to use JIGSAW's MATLAB interface there may already be some options available to do this. Feel free to send me an email if you're interested to pursue this and we can discuss further.

I've bumped this feature up on JIGSAW's to-do list, and will leave this issue open until it's resolved.

@BinWang0213 I believe this should now be working -- boundary cells returned by JIGSAW will inherit their ID-tag from the input geometry. In your "square" example, the ID-tags assigned to the geometry should flow through to the EDGE2 cells in the mesh.

I've added a related 3-dim. example (a surface embedded within a cubical volume) in the jigsaw-matlab repo.
