That was something I really wanted to do but I couldn't work it out when I was working on this, either remove badges or allow the badge to be updated/reissued. That would be really great if you could work it out.

removing badges feels like the wrong thing to do to me - surely once badges are issued, you have it forever and instead a "new" badge is issued which builds on or replaces the previous badge?

yeah - I'd want to take a step back and look at implementing better support in core for "expiry" of a badge before I tried to do something in recompletion.

The other thing to look at would be "are badges the right thing to use" - HQ pushed a new certificate tool into the plugins db recently which might be better? - we just need a way to re-issue or build on top of the existing certification/badge rather than deleting it.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I agree that being able to delete badges (and competencies!) would be immensely helpful - particularly when they are used to track levels of achievement which require:

  • a selection of separate courses and activities to be completed,
  • at least one course needs regular recertification on a per student basis,
    and
  • The level of achievement/badge: is deleted for that user if that course has expired.

re-issue or build on top of the existing certification/badge rather than deleting it",

I agree it would be ideal to have an alternative in Moodle Standard (non-Workplace), however the only other way I have found is to use categories in the gradebook. It gets the data for teachers, but its not especially user friendly and there's no sense of achievement for the student :)

The certificate plugins I have seen (including the Workplace plugin) don't issue automatically (unless using Workplace), they have to be "viewed" or issued manually.
