I've seen this as well. It seems to be the distance you move the node:
- If you move from Genesis to Commodity it wont drop, but if you move back to Genesis or Custom made, you can drop and then click-drag to commodity after than.
- Same with the Value Chain axis, if you move all the way down (form the top) you need to 'stop on the way'.

Added in the ability to escape off. When getting stuck - I'll continue to investigate this.
