@Chucheen We solved this at Fueled by using the oneOf functionality within Webpack:

{
  test: /\.svg$/,
  oneOf: [
    {
      resourceQuery: /inline/, // foo.svg?inline
      loader: 'vue-svg-loader',
      options: {
        // optional [svgo](https://github.com/svg/svgo) options
        svgo: {
          plugins: [
            {
              removeViewBox: false
            }
          ]
        }
      }
    },
    {
      loader: 'file-loader',
      query: {
        name: 'static/media/[name].[hash:8].[ext]'
      }
    },
  ]
},

You then import them slightly differently for the different types

import imageSrc from 'path/to/image/example.svg';
import ImageComponent from 'path/to/image/example.svg?inline;

…
components: {
  ImageComponent,
},
data() {
  return {
    src: imageSrc,
  },
},
…
<img :src="src" />
<image-component />

from vue-svg-loader.

At this moment, i had to duplicate/change the extension for the files that i want to put inline from .svg to .inlinesvg and configure the loader as follows:

module.exports = {
    test: /\.inlinesvg$/,
    loader: 'vue-svg-loader', // `vue-svg` for webpack 1.x
    options: {
        // optional [svgo](https://github.com/svg/svgo) options
        svgo: {
            plugins: [
                {removeDoctype: true},
                {removeComments: true}
            ]
        }
    }
};

Is there any other way? It feels hacky

Thank you all! I added the section about this case in the docs:
