@nuclearkatie and I started an effort on this a few weeks ago, but got bogged down. Maybe we can try another mini hackathon to make progress?
I recall that the first step required some fluency with CMake and docker to untangle the current system.

I would be more than happy to join in on this. I don't really have any experience with CMake and about an ounce of experience with docker, so any resources to help me get started with those would be greatly appreciated.

Very possible, since the conflicts were with dependencies. I'd have to play around with building an environment with both cyclus and Dakota to be sure.
