UUIDTimer is not extendable which is not consistent with it's Javadoc about java-uuid-generator HOT 7 CLOSED

Sounds like there has been one refactoring too many or something.
I don't mind changing these to non-final if that makes sense (PRs also welcome, should be small change).

Merged; I can do 3.1.5 but thought I'll see if any other changes were necessary.

Also: I am open to improvements to locking itself; original implementation is old and simple so perhaps there are better ways to handle it for high(er) levels of concurrency.
(although 10M/uuids per second limit by spec, per generator, may be more a limiting factor).
