Pre- and post-generate scripts are a great idea.

Rather than defining main(), I think it would make sense to have that function be called generate_extra_context().

Then, in generate_context() inside of cookiecutter/generate.py, we could do something like:

try:
    from pre_generate import generate_extra_context
except ImportError:
    logging.debug("No extra context was defined in a pre_generate script.")

# then inject the extra context

You could also have hooks called before and after generating the whole project, to do things like creating a virtualenv or initializing a git repo. One nice things about those would be to allow any executable file to be used, so that one could use simple shell scripts.

Hooks are now in master and will be in 0.7.0. Closing.
