Pre- and post-generate scripts are a great idea.
Rather than defining main()
, I think it would make sense to have that function be called generate_extra_context()
.
Then, in generate_context()
inside of cookiecutter/generate.py
, we could do something like:

except ImportError:
logging.debug("No extra context was defined in a pre_generate script.")
# then inject the extra context

You could also have hooks called before and after generating the whole project, to do things like creating a virtualenv or initializing a git repo. One nice things about those would be to allow any executable file to be used, so that one could use simple shell scripts.
