Hi Christian,
I followed the development on the libfreenect2 repository avidly. Yes you are right, I already planed to change kinect2_bridge to work with the upstream repository, just waited for the changes to arrive. Hopefully I will have some time at mid/end this week to do so.

There is a libfreenect2-upstream branch containing changes to work with the upstream.
It still needs some changes in libfreenect2 to work well. Like the static linking of libusb, the generated config header file and the use of the glewmx system library if possible.
