There is this project and a couple of discussions on the mailing list about this topic.
It's actually a pretty difficult matter, and I don't think inspection is a really good starting point (reflection in js gives very few informations; you wouldn't even have argument length).
The best you can do is usually to hope that the library doc is parseable and strictly typed, then you have a slight chance of generating working externs from it ;)
I once did a similar tool for PHP->Haxe using PHP's manual, and it was not even 100% accurate (you might argue that the PHP API is broken, which is true)...

In any case, generating externs is clearly not the scope of the project.
My goal is rather the opposite of automating the process, it's more about:

  • commissioning / somehow selecting npm packages that are reliable (in my experience, lots of npm packages are just broken, and it has cost me huge loss of time...)
  • providing quality externs for these selected libs (well designed, haxe-friendly, tested as much as possible, up-to-date)
It's also about helping Haxe integrate with the node.js/npm ecosystem, but extern generation is just too complex and would require a project of its own.

Thanks for the suggestion and your interest in my project anyway ;)
