I'm not sure about that. We refer to the code from the PredRNN repository, but it doesn't look like np.array is necessary here.

The reason for slowness is that the above function is called in the forward pass of ConvLSTM, and since numpy operations happen over CPU and they then have to be converted to torch tensors and copied to GPU, therefore making the overall forward pass quite slow. Changing the above function to use torch tensors and GPU should fix the slowness.
