I've implemented an arc_between function that given two points and a bending height it draws the connecting arc (the changes are on this branch). It allows for drawing connectors like this:
colors = "red orange blue".split()
circles = [circle(0.1).translate(dx, 0).fill_color(Color(c)) for dx, c in enumerate(colors)]
dia = (
arc_between((0, 0), (1, 0), 0) +
arc_between((1, 0), (2, 0), +0.2) +
arc_between((1, 0), (2, 0), -0.2) +
arc_between((0, 0), (2, 0), +0.5) +
concat(circles)
