Still? :) Tabs are the (new - as opposed to 20 years ago) correct way of indenting code.
I think we addresses this issue a while back in some google groups feed.
This is pretty sure not going to change.

@choma That is unlikely to change. We've been using tabs for almost 10 years and changing the convention in all files will sadly mess the entire repo history and introduce no real benefit.

Thanks anyway for your interest and I hope that having a decent editor will lessen any problem you may be experiencing because of this convention.

I'm starting to use Emacs (php-mode + flycheck + phpcs --standard=CakePHP).
I was getting errors for using spaces. I'll have to change indent settings.
Everything else is working nicely.
