There are 2 ways to force validation (see form demo or formFor controller docs). One validates an individual field and shows any resulting errors. The other returns a Promise that resolves/rejects based on the entire form validating - but as you pointed out, doesn't show an error message. It leaves it up to you.

If you want to just submit the form (which will also validate it, along with showing any errors) then you can do it just like this:

angular.element('form').trigger('submit')

You can use html5 form attribute. Hope it helps :)
