Investigation revealed this to often show odd results; sorting by count seems generally best.

However, gene hints output can be sorted by any one of four metrics, so this could be achieved via e.g. python3 gene_hints/gene_hints.py --sort-by rank_delta if desired in the future.

Help output seems relevant:

python3 gene_hints/gene_hints.py --help
usage:
    python3 gene_hints/gene_hints.py --days 365

Output TSVs gene popularity by Wikipedia views and PubMed citations

optional arguments:
  -h, --help show this help message and exit
  --days DAYS Number of days to analyze. (default: 180)
  --only [{views,citations} [{views,citations} ...]]
                        Data types to include
  --sort-by {count,delta,rank,rank_delta}
                        Metric by which to sort PubMed citations. (default: count)
  --debug {0,1,2} Get fast but incomplete data. Useful to develop. Levels:0: use default `days`, don't cache. 1: use `days 2`, cache download but not compute. 2: like `debug 1`, and cache intermediate compute. (default: 0)
