Might it be worth adopting the clj-ds data structures at some point? These are exactly the right data structures for this purpose as they are designed to mirror Clojure's data structures in Java....

My goal is to design and implement edn-java such that it has no external dependencies.

It's my intention to provide support for Guava's immutable collection types through a separate library that depends on edn-java and guava. (I'm already doing this in my application.)

Another such library providig appropriate BuilderFactory implementations for clj-ds seems sensible.

OK, that makes sense. I agree it is appropriate to minimise dependencies for something like edn-java

Would also work for people wanting to use edn-java using Clojure's data structure directly, which could be another option.
