That's not really schema validation, though. It's invalid JSON.

Totally agree that it could be friendlier. Unfortunately, that error comes from Object#parse which is a stdlib method in node.js.

I patched node to report better errors for this when require() is used to grab the JSON, I can't remember if that got in or not

Yeah, also, we're using @isaacs read-package-json package, so it would have to be patched at that level i believe. thanks tho!
