P.S. The reason this is important to me is that I'm using libroxml to modify
pre-existing XML. As far as I can see the only way to do that is to delete a
node and then add a new version of it that has modified content. I want to add
the new node at the same position as the node I deleted.

I see what the problem is and I will fix this.
This should be fixed in the master branch by Sunday hopefully.
