Your best bet may be to enter text as a string, e.g. "12 Oct 2017". The format you adopt is very flexible. You can convert that into a number using get_date(), and back into a string again using ctime(), or perhaps use strftime() for a more flexible output. I've given an example in dates.oleo. You can download the raw form of the file and experiment further.

Also, check out section 14.7 of the manual, which lists the date and time functions.

Let me know how you get on.

TODO : incorporate this info in the manual.
