Dependency confusion about dotenv-deployment HOT 4 CLOSED

👍 Seemingly, developers should be putting only dotenv-deployment in their Gemfile and the deployment gem should in turn be dependent upon compatible versions of dotenv.

This was obviously done on purpose in order to ease the migration. See ab91a6b.

Including only the 'dotenv-deployment' gem doesn't work for me in production (Ubuntu 12.04), I had to include 'dotenv-rails' in my Gemfile without specifying :test and :development group (i.e. include also in production) for the .env file to work.
The weird part is that, when I do 'printenv', none of my variables are in the list, but the app is working well...apparently it gets the env variables somewhere?

I just pushed out dotenv 1.0 and dotenv-deployment 0.2.0 that updates the gem dependencies.
