As far as I can tell, it actually only fades on mouse-out, do you see that as well?

Btw, turns out the issue was just that AnimatedContainer just can't tween from null, a simple color: buttonContext.backgroundColor ?? Color(0x0), seems to be all we need here.

[Edit] Actually that doesn't work quite right, but this does:

var fadeOutColor = getBackgroundColor(MouseState()..isMouseOver = true).withOpacity(0);
...
AnimatedContainer(
                curve: Curves.easeOut,
                duration: Duration(milliseconds: mouseState.isMouseOver ? 0 : 200),

It's really hard to see. It might be a super quick fade-in, but the fade out is more prominent yes.
