I think this may be an Apple problem, in that I have seen similar issues with
Roman characters under certain
circumstances (particularly when a letter is followed on the next line by an
em-dash). I'll take a look, but I'm
afraid I probably won't be able to fix this on my own.

I meet the problem too. and don't know how to fix it.
Chinese characters must encoded as UTF-8 to display correctly.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!
Apple appears to have fixed the problem, as of firmware 1.1.1. At least, the
"test.txt" which samsonu provided
seems to work now. (See screenshot.)
