This is up my alley save for two competencies that seem pretty set in stone for the project - Python with Django. Based on how the post comes across I think the selected individual should have high competency with these. It is therefore probably unrealistic for me to submit a proposal despite being able to hold my own in the other categories.

Considering that, my question is less project specific and more a curiousity. Does bcgov have any go-to languages and/or frameworks that would be worthwhile to learn for future postings?

Hi @lucasyvas you are correct in that we are using Python/Django to build out the API however if you have experience building APIs in other server-side languages and you're an excellent front-end Vue.js programmer, you may wish to consider putting in a proposal. The bulk of the points in the evaluation criteria are for approach and experience writing APIs and front-end apps. A smaller amount of points are available for the specific tech stack.

Getting the project going locally is well-documented in the setup readme and we're looking for something very similar to the registires app.

There are no 'go-to' languages specified. I'd recommend you have a look at all BCGOV repositories to see what languages are trending. If there are specific projects you're are interested in, you may want to investigate those tech stacks. Many teams will be looking for full-stack developers which include back-end, front-end, quality assurance (unit/api/functional testing) and DevOps.

I'm sure many teams would also be receptive to open source contributions if you're interested in learning new languages.

@cwevans Thanks for the thorough response! I will definitely snoop around the other repos to get a feel for the stacks being used. Based on your comment, I will take a look at the proposal process and consider it if it otherwise clicks. I'm sure you'll find someone capable to help out :)
