My reason for keeping the failing test was that I was not sure what's the correct output for XML-RPC for empty values (like an empty String param). I assumed it was <string/>
, but I wanted to verify by trying a similar example using another language's XML-RPC to compare their output.

I just tried a command with rtorrent which returned empty strings. The empty strings were output in the XML response as:
<string></string>
I don't know if that helps. If your question is whether or not the shorthand <string/>
is allowed, I can't say. Googling didn't bring up anything. However, perhaps it might not hurt to use the way I found? <string></string>

Woops, clicked the wrong button and accidentally closed this.

Although it does seem like you can use empty tags like <string/>
based on at least the ruby xmlrpc library.

Excellent, I'll update the expected results to match the text being returned with the empty string param (<string/>
) and we can finally get 100% passing tests.
