This is a valid feature request, it is tracked in our plan.

This is a must-have feature I would rather say. At the meantime, the EKS cluster with pretty much minimum amount of pods generates around 1000 metrics. Every each metric costs $0.30 per metric which is around ~$300 a month. This is a lot of cash to be honest. The interesting part is, that for example I only need 10-20 metrics all together, but there is no option to opt out and cut the bill.

I have started investigating our costs and then suddenly saw around 20k custom metrics. How it's suppose to explain this expense to the management? I understand that this not easy for implementation but, hey AWS we are paying for this and bloating your infrastructure with unnecessary data :) - please fix it!

This feature is really needed.

Hi, we are still waiting for this to be implemented. it would really help us get rid of some clunky infrastructure on our part, but the cost of having unnecessary metrics bloating our AWS bill is keeping us from using cloudwatch. please try to give us a timeline on when this will be fixed.

is the code for the cloudwatch agent open source? couldn't be that hard to add a way to specify which metrics you want
from amazon-cloudwatch-container-insights.
Hi @nitrag, currently we don't support configuring metrics for container-insights.

Any update @hdj630 ?

This feature would be AWSome, definitelly needed! 😃
Does anybody have a workaround to send only selected EKS cluster metrics to cloudwatch?
from amazon-cloudwatch-container-insights.
Any updates or workarounds for that?
We generate tons of metrics we don't even need and this is costing us a fortune! If there isn't any solution provided in the near future we have to get rid of the cloudwatch-agent...
from amazon-cloudwatch-container-insights.
No workarounds that I know of @tim-koehler. We are in the same boat. We've dropped cloudwatch-agent
for now...
@hdj630 any updates?
from amazon-cloudwatch-container-insights.
We're considering dropping it as well and going back to Prometheus.
