Yes, you should ideally fork django-shop on github and submit a pull request.
I could really just put your patch in, but I encourage you to try making a proper pull request instead, you'll understand why github is popular in the process (and it makes discussion and comments much, much easier, too :) )

weird that we have this in the templates at all, since the shop does not come with a category model. anyone wants to clean the templates a bit?
