I've actually accomplished it. In my setup the mediator has a list with pointers to modules that subscribe to a channel.

_.bindAll(this, 'render');
Facade.extend(
"rowlog",
"filterOnTrainingID",
function(module, training){
module.training = training;
module.render();
},
this
);
In this way, the modules can react to a channel. In this case the module re-renders itself when a certain channel is published.
