Thanks! Can you provide a link to the docs where this extension is documented? I just tried looking for that but couldn't find it (and seems like there are other types of files which use that extension).

You can use either the .rb or .opal extension

The opal extension matters, since when using Opal with Rails (notably in engines), it turns out Rails application eager loading blindingly loads'app/**/*.rb. Guaranteed to blow up on deployments, unless one sidesteps the issue with use of the opal extension.
